PIPEDA (Privacy Act)

Effective January 4, 2004, the New Federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) regulated the collection, use and disclosure of personal information in the private sector.

Our office complies with the principles of PIPEDA and as such will ensure that:

  1. Only necessary information is collected about you and your family.
  2. Only share your information with your consent.
  3. Storage, retention, and destruction of your personal information complies with existing legislation and privacy protection protocols.
  4. Our privacy protocols comply with the standards of our regulatory body, (The Manitoba Dental Association). Our office is committed to protecting your personal information that we collect from you (such as medical history, address, phone numbers, credit card information, insurance information, marital status, and dependents). To help you understand how we are doing that, we have outlined how your personal information is being used by our office.

    • To provide safe and efficient dental care. To ensure that any health problems that you may have will not be aggravated or cause quality care.
    • To assess your dental health needs.
    • To advise you of treatment options.
    • To enable us to maintain communications with you for the following purposes:

      1. To follow-up for treatment, recalls and billings.
      2. To book and confirm appointments.
      3. Distribute dental health and insurance information.
    • To permit this clinic to share medical, personal, and/or insurance information with your physician, insurance company, or another dental professional/specialist to whom your are referred.
    • To complete and submit dental claims to insurance companies for review and payment.
    • To process payments.
    • To assist in collection of accounts.
    • To comply with PIPEDA.
